Transit or airport transit visas

Transit visas are applied by non-EU nationals, who travel from a non-Schengen state to another non-Schengen state, through France or several Schengen states.

The airport transit visa allows its holder to reach the international area of an airport but does not allow one to leave it. This visa is only valid for France.

The transit visa, which can only be issued for a maximum validity of 6 months, allows its holder to leave the international area of the airport and to enter the Schengen Space, for a limited period of 5 days per transit.

Processing fees have to be paid to the consular department when submitting the application for the visa.

  • Required relevant documents

The applicant has to submit ones application personally to the consular department. The original documents to join as well as a copy have to be provided with the application :

-  an application form for a short stay visa (Schengen visa), duly filled out in black and signed,

-  an identity photograph,

-  the passport with the visa to enter the country, which is the main destination,

-  a return ticket,

-  a proof of financial resources for the period of the stay : bank statement.

  • Additional documents may be requested by the consular department.
  • The issue of a visa does not in itself grant the right to enter the French territory and the Schengen Space. The original documents presented when submitting the application might be requested by the border authorities and should also be kept by the visa holder throughout his stay.
