Georg Apenes, Director of the Norwegian Data Inspectorate
Director of the Norwegian Data Inspectorate since 1989.
Has worked as a registrar, a journalist and was also a member of the Norwegian Parliament (Stortinget) for 12 years.
He has been a member of the justice committee within The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) for eight years.
Was also a member of The National Committee for Medical and Health Research Ethics (NEM) for 15 years.
Was a member of the Norwegian Council For Animal Ethics.
For many years, Mr Apenes has been a regular contributor to various Norwegian newspapers, written articles for periodicals, textbooks, essay collections and anthologies. In addition to this, he has written six books. His latest book “Fra tillit til kontroll – tolv samtaler om politikk, tekonologi og personvern” (In English: “From trust to control – twelve conversations on Politics, Technology and Privacy” was published in August 2005 as part of the Norwegian Data Inspectorates 25th anniversary.
In December 2008 he was awarded the Rosing Academy`s Honorary Award by The Norwegian Computer Society. This is awarded individuals who have contributed to positive development within Norwegian IT profession and trade.
